5-year-old girl drowns at Sumbrungu after heavy downpour



A 5-year-old girl from Sumbrungu in the Bolgatanga Municipality of Upper East Region got drown following torrential rains that occurred in the region on Saturday.

The body of has since been retrieved and buried at the family house in Sumbrungu.

Bolgatanga Municipal Director of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) Ernest Adombirenaba revealed this when Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amiyuura Atura embarked on a visit to the affected places.

Mr. Adombirenaba proposed tree planting to protect schools and properties in future

“The schools that we visited, we’ve realized that there are no trees. So we entreating communities and school authorities to plant trees to serve as windbreak. We are also doing sensitization that before the unset of the rain they should at least get a carpenter to put back nails that are removed and fix back places that are loose. This is a short term measure but the long term measure will be the planting of the trees.

The team visited Anglican JHS, Sokabisi Primary School and Zaare English Arabic JHS all in the municipality to ascertained the level of damage caused.
