Interior Ministry imposes curfew on Yendi and its environs



The Minister of the Interior has on advice of the Northern Regional Security Council and by Executive Instrument, imposed a 5:00pm to 7:00am curfew on the Yendi Township and it environs, effective, Friday 18, January 2019.

The imposition of the curfew is to forestall any violence as well as ensure the maintenance of law and order in Yendi and its environs.

Government has urged chiefs, elders and the youth, as well as all persons in the area to exercise restraint in the face of challenges confronting them, as well as to use non-violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area.

There is however a total ban in Yendi township and its environs from carrying arms, ammunition and any offensive weapons. Anyone found carrying a weapon will be arrested and prosecuted.

Meanwhile, the funeral rites and other activities towards the enskinment of a new Ya-Na has been peaceful and incident free.
