A group calling itself, Women for Women leadership Advocacy, has congratulated Professor Jane Naana Opoku- Agyemang on her appointment as running mate of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) by the party’s flag bearer John Dramani Mahama for the 2020 general elections.
In a press statement issued and copied to A1radioonline.com, Convener of the group, Vida Atogtame Alangdi, said, the acceptance by Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyeman as a running mate to a major political party, was an inspiration to all women in Ghana and beyond.
She commended, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and it’s flag bearer John Mahama for taking a bold step to nominate a female running mate to a major political party.
“As a women leadership advocacy group, we see her nomination and the acceptance as inspiration to many, especially Women and the ordinary Ghanaian who have almost given up on polities. To us, this nomination is not an achievement of Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang alone but all Women in the world.
This nomination is a testimony of fact that, we are making great strides in inclusive democracy. It also deepens the confidence of Women across the Country especially the Girl-child in developing their competence to be given a place on the decision table”.
The women group, numbering over three hundred (300) in procession on the principal streets of Bolgatanga expressed their gratitude on Prof. Opoku-Agyemang’s appointment as running mate, with placards such as;Women it’s our time to go higher, Women deserves recognition in politics, I am for Jane Naana, Ghana need female vice president, among others.
The group also called on all political parties to also recognize women at all levels of leadership positions.
