Police is counting on public support to reduce crime rate

Upper East Regional Police Commander DCOP Osei Ampofo-Duku says crime rate reduced drastically in 2018 as a result of the vigilance and swiftness of the personnel of the Ghana Police Service.

According to him, 2019 has started well and was very hopeful that members of the public will continue supporting the police with information to curb crime and to apprehend criminals.

He has urged members of the public to have faith in the Police and should always help the Police with information to help curb crime in society and also protect lives and properties.

DCOP Osei Ampofo-Duku was at a socialization and stock taking event in Bolgatanga. The event widely known as WASSA (West Africa Security Services Association) creates the platform for the Police to interact with members of the public.

“People should always have truth in the security agencies; our sole mandate is to protect you. In the region, comparing 2017 to 2018, crime related issues reduced drastically and that tells how far my men are working in ensuring you are protected at all levels.” He told some civilians who were at the event.

Touching on vigilantism, the Regional Police Commander appealed to citizens’ especially those who are with the various political parties to at all-time discourage the use of violence to solves their problems and creation of fear and panic in society, stressing that Ghana every Ghanaian and not just the politicians.

The Upper East Regional Minister, Paulina Patience Abayage, applauded the security agencies for keeping the region safe for all and sundry despite its closeness to some boarders.

She, therefore, called on traditional leaders and relevant authorities to work closely with the police to ensure that the region has a lasting peace as it has been noted for that.

The occasion brought together various security agencies in the region to discuss as a group, ways to effectively protect and safeguard the region as a whole.
