The Controller and Accountant General, Eugene Ofosuhene has indicated that all ghost names that existed on the government payroll have been weeded out.
The country’s coffers for sometime back suffered substantial amounts of revenue leakages through the activities of what is known as ghost workers syndrome.
But speaking exclusively to A1 News, the Controller and Accountant General said the introduction of Electronic Salary Payment Voucher (ESPV) system has been able to delete all ghost names on the government payroll.
“Ghost names have virtually become a thing of the past. Because we have system called the Electronic Salary Payment Voucher (ESPV) which is platform setup in the payroll process were in the course of the calendar month for the payroll process, there comes a time we halt and allow various management unit heads and validate for their respective management units”, he said.
He further indicated that “we do this consistently, so, by so doing, we’ve been able to purged the payroll of any ghost names if they ever existed. So I can assure you with certainty that we don’t have any ghost names”, he stated.
Mr. Ofosuhene revealed this when he paid a day working visit to the Upper East Region.
Mr. Ofosuhene who was embarking on a nationwide visits revealed a policy known as Ghana Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS).
GIFMIS, he said is a financial traction which operates in all Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies towards clamping down on corrupt practices in the public sector.
He earlier paid a courtesy called on the Upper East Regional Minister, Paulina Patience Abayage. The minister on her part regretted of some structures belonging to the Controller and Accountant General Departments in the region which are left to deteriorate.
Madam Abayage appealed for vehicular and other logistics for the department in the region to facilitate their activities.
