YEA’S 500 Prison Service Assistants Pass Out

The last cohort of 500 Prison Service Assistants under the umbrella of Youth Employment Agency [YEA] security module have successfully passed out at well ceremony in Accra.
Available information at the disposal of Spynewsagency indicates that Prison Service Assistants programme has provided over 2,000 Ghanaian youth with employment.
In addition to the above mentioned figure, a total of 4,600 beneficiaries have successfully passed out under the YEA’s community Police Assistants programme in all six training schools of the Ghana Police Service across the country.
2000 Fire Service Assistants have also successfully passed out under the Ghana Fire Service programme all coming under the umbrella of the YEA Security module.
This statistical breakdown of jobs created by YEA under its security module was contained in a speech delivered by Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations during the passing out ceremony of the last cohort of 500 Prison Service Assistants under the umbrella of YEA security module.
The Minister was hopeful that the new recruits would augment the human resource capacity of Ghana Prison Service in providing security and safety in the country’s various prisons cells and communities across the length and breadth of the country as well as ensure safety and sanity in the country which is also in line with the President John Mahama’s vision of working towards the Sustainable Development Goals goal 16 of peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, providing access to justice for all and building effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.
Over ten thousand Head Porters popularly known in Ghana as Kaya Yei according to the Minister for Employment and Labour Relations have been registered in Accra and Kumasi and would be placed in various vocations of their choice.
The agency, he said intends to spread its wings to the Northern region and carry out another set of registration for what the Minister described as our brothers and sisters in the Northern sector in order to discourage rural urban migration.
 YEA according to Hon. Iddrisu has far provided jobs to about 58,600 Ghanaian youth. This number, he said represents 58.6% of the agency’ target of creating 100, 000 jobs for the youth by December, 2016.
Statistical break down of jobs created so far by modules under YEA are as follows: prison service assistants; 2,000, community police assistants; 4,600, fire service assistants; 2,000, community health workers; 19,500.
The rest are E-health assistants; 1,000, coastal protection assistants; 2,500, environmental protection assistants; 2,500, community education teaching assistants; 20,000.
