I'm shocked to hear the appointment of GRA Board Chairman – NPP Communicator

The New Patriotic Party’s Deputy Regional Communications Director in the Upper East Region, Johnson Ayine has expressed shocked over the appointment of the former MD of the Ghana Maritime Authority, Kwame Owusu, as the new Board Chairman of the Ghana Revenue Authority.

According to the party’s communicator, such a decision shouldn’t have been made, especiially when the person in question has not been cleared from allegations of abuse of office and conflict of interest.

The Communicator, who shared his opinion on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East, said despite his disappointment about the appointment of Mr. Owusu, he believes the President knows what he’s doing, therefore people should not read different meanings into the appointment.

“…myself, I’m shocked but I believe the President of the Republic of Ghana knows what is good for this country.” He said.

Meanwhile on Monday, July 15, 2019, the Ghana Integrity Initiative (GII) released a statement demanding that the President of the Republic of Ghana revokes Mr. Owusu’s appointment from the Board of GRA.

The GII however, reminded the President, Nana Akuffo Addo that his oath of office enjoins him to dedicate himself to the service and well-being of the people of Ghana, hence he should respect the views of Ghanaians and act right to all manner of persons.
