Builsa North District elevated to Builsa North Municipality


President Nana Akufo Addo has announced the elevation of the Builsa North district to a Municipality following the signing of the Executive Order on December 19, 2018.
Per this announcement, the Builsa North District will now be referred to as the Builsa North Municipality from 2019 and will still have Sandema as its capital. The Builsa North District is known mainly for farming and trading.
The President, Nana Akufo Addo made the announcement at Sandema when he joined the Chief and people of the Builsa Traditional Area to celebrate this year’s Feok Festival.
The 2018 Feok Festival was under the theme, “Leveraging Our Culture and Human Resources for Development”.
This year, President, Nana Akufo Addo was the Special Guest of Honour and per the history, as narrated by the Paramount Chief, the President, Nana Akufo Addo happens to be the first sitting President to attend and celebrate the Feok Festival with the people in the past 20 years and over.
The President assured the Chiefs and people of the Builsa Traditional Area, which is made up of the Builsa North and South District Assemblies, that under his leadership, he will commit himself to give the area their fair share of National Development.
He assured them that, some road and bridge projects that were awarded and later were halted because of no funding, will soon start, following some renegotiations were made and Contractors have agreed to get back to site to complete their projects.
He promised that, the Builsa North will benefit from some 200 Agricultural Mechanisation Centers that will be established by government in 2019 and expects to see many farmers benefiting from the services to be rendered by this Mechanisation Center.
In appreciation of the various development projects send to the Builsa Traditional Area, the Paramount, Sandem-Nab Azagsuk Asantilow honoured the President with a replica of the “victorious horn” which symbolizes the victory of the Builsa’s over the Slave Raiders.
“Fellow Builsas, on your behalf, I will now present to our caring President a replica of the victorious headgear of our ancestors, praying that he will be victorious in all his undertakings.” The Paramount Chief said.
Dignitaries that accompanied the President included Upper East Regional Minister, Paulina Abayage, Minister of Local Government, Hajia Alima Mahama, the Builsa North DCE, Daniel Kwame Gariba, Builsa South DCE, Hon. Afoko and the Minister of Aviation and MP for Navrongo Central, Joseph Kofi Adda.
