You Wreck Me, I Wreck You

I’m young; I’m determined
I’m old; I’m undermined
You promised to better me
Yet you tattered me
I’m caught in web; a deceit circle
Oh yes!

I know its a mess
But how can I get out of this debacle?
You said you had me at heart
I believed
Later told me it was a family thing
I still believed
I gave you power
My thumb
You gave me penury
My tombHmm!!! I’ve been deceived
Alas!!! I’m relieved
I’m free from your bondage
Deceit and misery
I’m free from cunning and false pretence
I’m free from seeing you as inseparable part of me
I’m free from constant wrong decisions
Whenever I hear the alarm of my hexing metre beeping
I say sorry: but I was deceived
Whenever I hear someone is murdered
I say sorry : but she was deceived
Whenever I see someone pushing his motorbike because he can’t afford fuel
I say sorry : but he was deceived
Whenever I hear college students complaining of hardship
I say sorry : but they were deceived
Whenever I feel thirsty and can’t afford 500ml sachet water
I say sorry : but I was deceived
Whenever I had to pay ghc2 to watch a football match
I say sorry : but I was deceived
Whenever I see people sleep with hunger because they can’t pay to grind their maize/millet
I say sorry : but they were deceived
Whenever graduates boys-boys meet and the common problem amongst us is unemployment
I say sorry : but were deceived
Deceit is finite ; it can’t last forever
Smile; it’ll soon be over
This year I pledge to right my wrong
With my voice I’m coming loud and strong
Won’t you do your own?
Fellow countrymen I throw you the challenge
We need this change
Choose honey over bee sting.
