Executives of the Ghana National Association of Small Scale Miners (GNASSM) is calling for calm between the feuding small-scale mining groups in Wa, the Upper West regional capital following a recent clash.
The executives who have been formally informed of the development is set to take over the matter and address it to its logical conclusion.
A fact-finding team is expected in Wa in earnest to start the mediation process to find a lasting solution to the impasse.
20 people were reported to have received cutlass and gunshot wounds following a clash between two mining groups over the supremacy of illegal mining operations in the Upper West region just last weekend.
The furore ensued between “Zongo- town” group and “Jamaican” group.
Though the Upper West Regional Police Command is investigating the matter, there are fears of possible reprisal attacks in the coming days.
Considering the background of the issue, GNASSM is aware the area of contention belongs to Azumah Large Scale Mining Company but promise it will engage authorities to give out some portion for all interested parties to operate on.
Also, the association is assuring the embattled members of using the government’s new policy for community mining to secure their legitimate operations.
Commending the police for the swift intervention, GNASSM conceding the magnitude of the matter believes there are available constitutional provisions by the association to address issues of such nature.
