Sports Minister Inspects Wa Youth Resource Centre Project

Youth and sports Minister, Isaac Kwame Asiamah today, 22 January, 2019 inspected the Wa Youth Resource Centre of Excellence.
Joined by other officials at the Ministry and the National Youth Authority (NYA), the facility tour was to assess the progress of work done by the contractor.
The Sports minister expressed gross satisfaction about the work so far. ‘’First of all let me thank Allah that very soon Upper West Region will have a youth and sports centre of excellence, a modern stadium and am proud of that. For the first time we are going to have it in this region.’’
The Upper West Region has produced talented sports men and women time and time again and has helped raised the flag of Ghana High in the sporting arena. The likes of Kwesi Nyantakyi, Maxwell Konadu, Baba Yaara and recently Hor Halutie all contributed their bits to Ghana’s sports.
While commenting on the benefits of the facility the Minister commended Government and expressed his optimism that talents which would have gone unnoticed without such facility will be harnessed when completed.
‘’The region has been deprived of this sports infrastructure for a long time. So I am happy that Government is intervening in the provision of sports infrastructure for Upper West Region. Talents are here, skills are here, so Ghana will benefit ultimately.’’
It will be recalled that last year Isaac Asiamah embarked on a sod cutting spree across the country for the construction of Youth Centre’s and Wa had its share in May last year. The nine month long project was expected to be completed in February this year.
‘’Per what I have seen it is obvious that the stadium is set. The stadium effect is been felt. The impression is out there. Is clear that the contractor is on point, is on course and he is working according to schedule.’’ The minister observed.
When quizzed about the completion of the project, the sector Minister revealed that the period of the construction of the project has been extended base on a technical meeting. ‘’ We have had technical sessions and technical meetings. There were some challenges which we have agreed that extension will have to come.
The indication we have from the consultant is that there is going to be about 5 month’s additional time or so.’’
The multi-purpose youth centre when completed will house a FIFA standard field, golf launch monitors, basketball court, counseling centre, ICT centre, and restaurant among other facilities.
