The Narcotic Law Enforcement Unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region has arrested nine narcotic users in Lamashegu, a suburb of in the Tamale Metropolis. The suspects were arrested with some dry leaves believe to be Indian hemp during an operation to combat persons trading or using narcotic drugs in the area.
The Police Public Relations Officer for the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yussif Tanko said the operation was undertaken on Tuesday March 26 at about 6:00pm in some parts of the regional capital to capture individuals or groups who peddle or use these drugs.
He disclosed the narcotics unit was setup last year to calm down on narcotic drug peddlers and users in the region.
He assured that the police is committed to ending the drug menace in the area. He stated that the exercise will continue unabated and till they are certain that all those engaged in it are arrested and prosecuted, they will not relent on their quest.
He added the suspects will go through screening and will be arraigned before a court in the coming days in Tamale. DSP Tanko said the suspects will charge in line with the narcotic laws of the country.
