Narcotic peddlers arrested in Tamale

The Narcotic Law Enforcement unit of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region has arrested nine narcotic users in Lamashegu, a suburb of the Tamale Metropolis. The suspects were arrested with some dry leaves believed to be Indian hemp during an operation to combat persons trading or using narcotic drugs in the area.

The Police Public Relation Officer for the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Yussif Tanko said the operation was undertaken on Tuesday March 26 at about 6:00pm in some parts of the regional capital to capture individuals or groups who peddle or use these drugs.

He disclosed that the narcotics unit was setup last year to crack down on narcotic drug peddlers and users in the region.

He assured that the police is committed to end the drug menace in the area. He stated the exercise will continue unabated and till they are certain that all those engaged in it are arrested and prosecuted they will not relent in their quest.

He added the suspects will go through screening and be arraigned before court in the coming days in Tamale. DSP Tanko said the suspects will be charged in line with the narcotic laws of the country.
