Assistant News Editor of A1 Radio, Joshua Asaah has been adjudged Tourism Writer of Upper East Region for the year 2018 at the 14th Regional Tourism Awards held in Bolgatanga.
Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), organizers of the awards scheme in a recognition stated that Joshua Asaah in his reportage is promoting tourism issues in the region.
In appreciation, the Ghana Tourism Authority in a citation which accompanied the award stated that His contribution to tourism in respect of reporting on tourism issues in the region has been very much appreciated especially on hospitality industry and our attraction.
Speaking to A1 News, Joshua Asaah while thanking the GTA for the recognition pledged to promote tourism in the region towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs).
There is no doubt that the world is gravitating towards digitization so it is against this backdrop that I realized the tourism sector is one area Ghana can adopt towards the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.
He emphasized that whereas it is appropriate to embrace digital tools in projecting the tourism sector, it is also appropriate to project local content of our region and the country as a whole.
In all, 19 individuals and hoteliers were honored for their contributions to the promotion of tourism in the Upper East Region with Blue Sky Hotel emerging a 2-star hotel of the year in the region.
This years awards scheme was under the theme, “Celebrating our heritage.”
Upper East Regional Manager of GTA, Henry Yeledour encourage all tourism practitioners to remain focus on increased quality of services. Mr. Yeledour challenged award winners to become ambassadors of service excellence in their operational areas through skills transfers and mentoring.
A keynote address by Upper East Regional Minister, Paulina Patience Abayage read by Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amiyuure said government has identified some tourist sites in the region for upgrade and improvement.
The Minister added that the Department of Feeder Roads is going to improve some selected roads leading to tourist sites including Paga, Sirigu, Bongo and Tongo to make these places accessible at all times.
