December 13, 2018 has been scheduled for the handing over of a multi-purpose community complex constructed in the Upper East regional capital, Bolgatanga, under the auspices of the Ministry of Inner-City and Zongo Development.
The facility is expected to be used for sporting activities, religious activities and other outdoor social activities.
It would be recalled that the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta stated on the floor of Parliament during the 2019 budget presentation that five recreational parks including one in Bolgatanga have been completed and ready for use.
“Mr. Speaker, Under the Zongo Development Fund, five Astro turfs (with spectator stands and dressing rooms) were constructed at Madina, Kyebi and Walewale. In addition, five recreational parks were completed for use at Bolgatanga, Salaga, Yeji, Tafo-Kumasi and Akim Oda”, the minister said.
The Bolgatanga park was originally scheduled for opening on November 30 but was postponed amidst some controversy regarding the cost and quality of the project.
The project, according to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Upper East deputy regional secretary, Awonekiya Figo, cost a sum of GH₵499,500.
Some residents in the region took to social media to raise questions about the project.
