Gbane Chief calls for more mining investors into his community

After the unfortunate incident that happened in January 2019 in the Gbane community in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region, where 16 young lives were lost and some demonstrators demanding for the revoking of Shaanxi Mining Company, the chief of Gbane has asked the public to disregard the needless demonstrations made by such groups and individuals and rather focus on bringing development into the community.

At a press briefing organized by the chief of Gbane, Naabil Elijah, entreated community members to remain calm and stop the blame games as it further divides them as people in the community.

“The people of Gbane have lived in peace since time in memorial with its neighboring communities. It is disheartening for us to hear that some people seek to revoke license of companies not operating in their land. We therefore entreat government and the general public to disregard and treat with disrespect all individual views, as we as a community expect same accord from all.” He said.

He again cautioned those who are behind the unnecessary demonstrations in the community not to take the silence of his outfit to be his weakness. The chief noted that the people claiming to be leaders and members of the “Concerned Citizens of Talensi” do not represent the views and position of the people and leadership of Gbane.

“The community will resist in all force any individual or group of people consciously working to disturb the long lasting peace in the mining site. We welcome all forms of investment into the community both small scale and large scale mining.” He added.

The chief, however, called on government and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources to protect and provide a serene working environment for the small scale mining concessions and large scale mining companies in the Gbane community to operate.
