The Governing Board of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) has appointed Dr Kareem Mumuni of the University of Ghana Medical School as Interim Acting (Ag) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the TTH.
Dr Mumuni’s appointment takes effect from January 02, 2020.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Board in Tamale on Tuesday and signed by Mr Mahmoud Nassir-Deen, its Chairman, and copied to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale.
The appointment of Dr Mumuni, followed the suspension of Dr David Kolbilla as the Ag CEO of the TTH.
The statement said “At the Board’s sitting in May 2019, members unanimously agreed and recommended Dr Kolbilla to the Public Services Commission (PSC) for interview and subsequent confirmation as substantive CEO”.
It said “The PSC, however, notified the Board in October 2019, of petitions it had received against Dr Kolbilla, and further informed the Board that the interview process would be suspended for further advice from the Board. The petitions called for investigations into the allegations against Dr Kolbilla”.
The statement said “In light of this, the Board at its sitting on October 31, 2019, agreed that to uphold transparency and fairness, Dr Kolbilla should be asked to temporarily step aside and that an Interim Ag CEO should be appointed”.
It said “This was to make way for an independent investigative committee (to be set up by the Ministry of Health) to look into the allegations”.
The statement said “The Board, having taken that decision, and in further consultation with the Minister of Health, agreed that an experienced individual with competence in hospital management and administration within Ghana’s health sector should be appointed in the interim to oversee the day-to-day management of the TTH during the period of the investigations”.
It said “It is therefore, our desire as a Board that staff, clients, and all stakeholders would accord Dr Mumuni optimal support needed to execute his duties as Interim Ag CEO during this period”.
The statement reminded members of the public that Dr Kolbilla had not been fired, sacked or removed from office adding “The media and other communicators should therefore, desist from using such terms during discussions on the matter”.
It expressed the Board’s commitment to ensuring that “The ultimate outcome of all its decisions results in the provision of enhanced, and quality tertiary services to our most important stakeholder, the patient”.
