Covid-19: Bolgatanga Leads With 3 deaths among 46 new cases In U/E Within Two weeks – Health Director

The Bolgatanga Municipality leads covid-19 infections in the Upper East Region as 3 persons have died out of 46 new confirmed cases in 2 weeks; the Bolgatanga Municipal Health Director, Dr. Nellic Edmond Mohammed Nyanwura, has revealed.

Speaking in an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East Program on Friday, he stated that “Bolgatanga has become the epic centre of Covid now in the Upper East Region. It is the main area with the majority of cases in the region now.”

“From the 1st of January to yesterday {14th January}, we have recorded a total of 46 cases in Bolgatanga Municipality alone; out of which 3 have died.”

Dr. Nellic Edmond Mohammed Nyanwura, Bolgatanga Municipal Health Dir.

Explaining the situation, Dr. Nyanwura said the persons who have died were all females between the ages of 52 and 70 years while the active cases involve persons ranging from 5 months old to 70 years.

“We get cases that report with signs and symptoms, so we suspect, test; and when the results come out positive, we trace on to their contacts. So we end up getting positives from the contacts.”

According to him, “some of the infected persons are at the treatment center in Bolgatanga whiles others are being managed at their respective homes.”

Dr. Nyanwura bemoaned a general disregard for the Covid-19 safety and preventive protocols which he said is largely responsible for the constant rise in the coronavirus infections in the municipality.

He therefore called on residents and the general public to “adhere strictly to the protocols that have been outlined”; because according to him, that is the only way to prevent the spread of the virus.
