Poku levels bribery allegation against GFA

The ex-Black Stars frontman claims officials of the team are influenced financially in player selections

Former Black Stars striker Kwadwo Poku has accused the Ghana Football Association of accepting bribes in selecting players for national assignments.
The 30-year-old made nine appearances for Ghana including games during the 2006 Fifa World Cup qualifiers.
Popularly known as Kwadwo Poku Mahala, the Kumasi-born also featured for Ghana at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
“I think the fortunes of the Black Stars are dwindling and it’s because players have to pay bribes to officials to gain entry into the national team,” Poku told Happy FM.
“Even though I’m no longer part of the team, most of the players are my friends and I speak with them.
“Isn’t it surprising that a player like Enoch Adu Kofi is playing regularly and featuring in the [Uefa] Champions League but is not getting a look in at the Black Stars?
“I am even aware that some players used to pay the school fees of some GFA officials so as to get a call-up to the national team.”
At club level, Poku played for local outfits King Faisal and Asante Kotoko, having also enjoyed a career abroad with Danish side FC Midtjylland.
