Yaa Naa’s Nephew Expresses Worry Over Security in Dagbon

A nephew of late Yaa Naa Yakubu II and Founder and Secretary of Yaa Naa Memorial Lecture Secretariat, Mr  Mahama Sayibu has called on government to publicly assure the nation that it will not allow Mahamadu Abdulai’s regent to enskin chiefs in Tolon and Diyari after his father’s funeral as being speculated in Dagbon.
The veteran journalist said information gathered by the secretariat indicates that the Abudus plan to establish parallel traditional authority in Dagbon by enskining chiefs in areas Abudu regents oversee, adding it does not only fly in the face of tradition and custom of Dagbon but also threaten the peace of the area.
Mr Sayibu who is currently in the United Kingdom said the secretariat is unable to treat such rumor lightly because it bears similar features with the one that preceded the murder of Yaa Naa Yakubu in 2002.
In a statement issued in London, Mr. Sayibu therefore called on the President to ensure that elements within the Abudu family do not take advantage of their proximity to political power to facilitate the planned installations by the regent of Mahamadu Abdulai.
Mr. Sayibu said the geographical location of such towns as Tolon and Diyari makes it even more worrying for peace in the region to be guaranteed if such planned installations take place.
He said an alert issued by the U S government to its citizens indicates that extreme violence is expected in and around Tamale and Yendi and argued that the U. S. could not be referring to just the performance of the funerals.
He cautioned all Andanis not to engage in any unlawful activity as the Abudus perform the funeral of their late king and hoped the Abudus will do same when it comes to the Andanis. He again called on the security to endeavour to respect the rights of the people in the area.
