MTN Ghana has donated assorted working tools to the Upper West Regional office of the Ghana News Agency as part of its corporate social responsibility to aid digital journalism for effective news coverage.
The gadgets included; two HP micro tower PC, one HP laser jet printer, two digital voice recorders, one digital camera and assorted news gathering and reporting gadgets.
The Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, Mr Sam Koranteng, who presented the items said Ghana required a critical mass of development oriented media to support the state in its growth agenda.
He said there was therefore the need to provide equipment to journalists working in the newswire service organisations like the GNA with dotted offices across the country particularly in rural districts to work with ease.
The MTN team was chuffed with the high level of professionalism and ethical journalism, the news agency reporters have exhibited consistently over the years towards national growth, unity and development.
He pledged MTN commitment to work together with the GNA and deepen the mutual partnership that had existed between the two organisations over the years.
Mr Sam said, as a leading telecom operator, MTN would continue to invest in the latest technologies whilst putting in place the requisite infrastructure to deliver converged digital telecoms solutions to make the lives of customers brighter.
The team also congratulated GNA for winning five awards at the GJA Awards as well as being adjudged the best Information and Communication Technology and Digital Journalism.
“As a telecommunication service provider with a track record of supporting media excellence,” he said: “MTN has decided to commit some resources to support the regional offices with computers and other tools to facilitate their work,” he said.
Mr Dasmani Laary, the GNA Upper West Regional Manager, who received the equipment thanked MTN for the benevolent offer and pledged to make judicious use of the gadgets to drive change in the region.
Mr Koranteng was flanked by Nii Adortey Mingle, General Manager – Regional Sales Northern Ghana, Ms Afua S. Asafo-Adjei, Corporate Services, Mr Obed Adu-Amankwah, the Upper West Territory Sales Controller and Ms Angela Ampofo, also from Corporate services department of MTN.
