Bongo DCE commissions health facilities at Sanabisi and Namoo

DCE Peter Ayinbisa handing over keys of Namoo health facility to chiefs

The District Chief
Executive for Bongo in the Upper East Region, Peter Ayinbisa, on Friday handed
over a newly constructed Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS)
compound with staff accommodation and a mechanized water system to the chiefs
and people of Sanabisi Electoral Area in the district.

When fully functional,
the CHPS compound will serve to ensure that people of the area will have the
necessary complement of basic health services.

Beneficiaries of this
health facility are the people of Sanabisi and nearby communities such as
Akulyoo, Alabukuloo, Asinyanga and Tindongo. Others are Akirekonkoosi, Bo-eri,
Zanwengo and Tamolga.

In his brief remarks at
the commissioning, the DCE was pleased that such a project has been
accomplished in his tenure as leader of the district; recounting the efforts he
had put in to get a health facility for the rural settlement during his 14
years of service as Assembly Member for the same area.

He said the New
Patriotic Party Government is committed to solving the health needs of
Ghanaians, especially those in rural areas.

Mr. Ayinbisa added
that, the Bongo District Assembly will build more CHPS Compounds in the
District as a significant concept that will help promote health care delivery.

The DCE also handed
over a 15-bed Maternity Block; designed to ease congestion on the existing 5-bed
health facility that serves an estimated population of 13,000 at Namoo in the
same district.

A midwife at the Namoo
CHPS compound, Rachael Ayamga, was full of excitement as she described how the
new maternity block will help improve the quality of health services given to
mothers and new born babies.

“Instead of us
discharging newborn babies within 12 hours, we will now extend it to 24 hours
or even more if the need be; and again, in the old building, we used not to
have Kangaroo mother care corner, but in this new building, we will create one
which will help us render that kind of service.” She said.

A Principal Physician
Assistant, in-charge of the Nammo CHPS compound, Adama Halimatu Sadia, acknowledged
and applauded the commitment of the Bongo District Assembly and Health
Directorate who pulled resources together to build maternity block.

Source of funding for
both facilities at Sanabisi and Nammo is the District Assembly Common Fund; and
they cost GHS 226,000.00 and GHS 130,000.00 respectively.
