Ghana Revenue Authority begins ousting products without tax stamps

It could be recalled that last year, a Special Mobilization Task Force under the Ghana Revenue Authority was designed to sensitize the public on the Excise Tax Stamp and its importance of generating revenue for the country’s economy.

The Excise Tax Stamp was designed with special security features to be affixed on excisable goods to show that taxes and duties have been paid either from the local manufacturers’ level or importers’ level into the country. It was against this background, the general public was warned to desist from buying products without the Tax Stamp.

This month, February 2019, a Special Mobilization Task Force under the Ghana Revenue Authority has begun seizing products that are without the Tax Stamp in country.

A Senior Revenue Officer, Ebenezer Quuaye-Larbi, who spoke to the media after a tour to various retailers in the region, said he is surprised manufacturers and traders still do not adhere to the directives despite numerous serializations.

Meanwhile, the Operative Manager under the Special Mobilization Task Force, James Cudjoe, said despite few challenges they have with some local retailers, the task force is getting some positive results.

Various alcoholic products such as; Darling, Kpoo-Keke and Red Label were a few that were without the tax stamp and were seized from various retailers in the Municipality by the members of the Task Force.
