Dagbon: New Yaa-Naa continues enskinment rituals amid tight security

The New Ya-Naa, Abubakari Mahama II, has traveled to Zohe from Katin after he begun processes for his full enskinment.
He is expected to stay at Zohe for three days before moving to the Mba Dugu palace to complete the enskinment process.
The Savelugu Naa, Alhaji Abubakari Mahama II, was selected to lead the kingdom filling a power vacuum that has existed since the Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II was killed in 2002.

Abubakari Mahama was in contention with four others including Kampakoya Naa, Abdulai Yakubu Andani, and Bolin Lana Mahamadu Abdulai.
Hundreds of residents lined up to see the Ya-Naa’s procession.
There is also a heavy security presence to prevent any further violence.

A 5:00 pm to 7:00 am curfew was imposed on the Yendi Township by the Minister for the Interior on Friday.
The rituals to begin his enskinment were marred by violence after a shooting incident on Friday evening.
One person has been confirmed dead following the incident.
Rituals were about to commence at the Gbewaa palace when gunfire was first heard.
Two persons were arrested with assault rifles after police and military personnel took control of the situation.

All these happened hours after the funeral of the late Ya-Naa Yakubu Andani II had ended.
The funeral was also delayed last week because of two days of violence that resulted in multiple deaths and several injuries.
There is currently a strong security presence to keep the peace many hope the selection of the new Ya-Naa will bring.
