Residents of Bolga-Soe in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region were on Monday afternoon thrown into a state of mourning when the bodies of 3 children were retrieved from a dam recently constructed under the government’s flagship project, 1 Village 1 Dam.

The dam was constructed barely one month ago to serve the purpose of dry season farming and to water animals.

According to community members, the dam was without water until the heavy downpour the region recorded recently. Bodies of the 3 children, Ayinsone Ayine, Dominic Akurugo and Raphael Aduko were retrieved and deposited at the Regional Hospital Morgue.

Assembly man for Soe Central Electoral Area, Abagna Richard who spoke to A1 News said the children got drowned in an attempt to swim in the dam.

“I was in town when I receive a call that 3 children, their ages are 9, 10 and 11. That they got drown in a newly constructed dam under the 1 Village 1 Dam project. So, when I got there the children were removed and sent to their various houses. So I went to the police station and reported”

He indicated that “children have been going there to swim and we always have it difficult chasing children from the dam”.
