Minister presents registration equipment to NHIS

Mr Abdallah Abubakari, Northern Regional Minister, has presented three sets of biometric registration equipment to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at Walewale to help register subscribers onto the scheme.
The equipment included computers, card readers, finger print scanners and card printers which would ensure that subscribers received their health insurance identity cards immediately they registered.
Making the presentation on Friday, Mr Abubakari said it would help address the situation where people, especially women, spent days in long queues at the NHIS Office at Walewale to be registered onto the scheme.
The Walewale NHIS Office serves West Mamprusi and the Mamprugu-Moaduri districts and until the Minister’s presentation, had only four sets of biometric registration equipment which was inadequate to register the high number of people in both districts.
Mr Abubakari assured the people that government would continue to work to address their needs.
He also paid GHȼ6000.00 to the NHIS Office to register free of charge about a thousand people who were waiting to be registered during the time of the presentation.
Alhaji Hudu Iddrisu, Northern Regional Manager of the National Health Insurance Authority, said the Walewale office had targeted to register about 174,000 people in West Mamprusi and Mamprugu-Moaduri districts saying the equipment had come at an opportune time to help achieve this target.
Mr George Apetigah, Manager of NHIS, West Mamprusi District, thanked the Minister for the presentation and promised to work hard to get more subscribers onto the scheme.
He said the NHIS Office, with the new equipment, was now in a position to deploy two mobile biometric registration kits to Mamprugu-Moaduri District to register subscribers.
