Joint security team chase final year students out of school

Final year students of the Bongo Senior High School in the Bongo District were on Tuesday June 5, chased out of school by military and policemen on the orders of the school’s management to prevent an “intended” students’ riot.

The incident shocked the students as the school management deployed heavily armed military and policemen to chase them out of campus immediately they finished writing their final paper in the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination – Social Studies paper, to prevent them from carrying out their “intended” riot.

But speaking to A1 News, the students denied vehemently over the allegation labeled against them and caution the school management to rather explain to them why they were made to pay GHc72 each as fees when their colleagues in other schools did not pay such an amount.

“…we cannot go in contrast with the school laws nor destroy properties. All what we wanted was the headmaster to explain to us why we are billed to pay GHc72 fees each.” One student asked.

The students, however said the action by the school management as worrying and disappointing and said “any failure in the paper will be attributed to the management not them” because the security personnel were harassing them verbally and making them to lose focus in writing their paper.

Meanwhile, management of the school admitted calling military and policemen to the school to chase the students out of campus, saying it was to prevent the students from embarking on a planned riot.

“Last year we experienced similar occurrences where students upon finishing their papers threw us stones and later destroyed school properties which we will not allow such act again this year.” A tutor by name Joe said.

The management also said that one of the reasons they asked the students to pay GHc72 fees because most of the ceiling fans in the various dormitories have been stolen by these same students hence they ought to pay for that.
