Officials of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) in Hamile, have apprehended ten Burkinabés during their usual patrol on 25th of August 2020.
They were caught when they attempted using unapproved routes within the Hamile Sector Command, to enter into the country en route to Kumasi. According to the Deputy Superintendent, Mohammed Razak “Our initial questionings disclosed that their migration was for economic purposes.” He added that “Despite ECOWAS policies allowing free movement of goods and persons across member states, Ghana shut all its borders on March 21 in a bid to the quest to stop the importation of the Covid-19 pandemic”.
Mr. Razak revealed that preliminary health checks have been carried out to enable them to control and prepare them for repatriation to their home country, Burkina Faso.
