Zoomlion promises to combat solid waste as rainy season approaches

As the rainy season fast approaches, many residents of the Bolgatanga Municipality are worried and expressing fear over possible flooding of their homes and work places as most gutters in the area are choked with waste.

These fears and worries come up every year for the same reason, unfortunately these wastes that have choked major gutters and water ways in the Bolgatanga Municipality come from homes of residents most of whom have not shown any sign of changing their ways of disposing domestic waste.

Fortunately, Zoomlion Ghana has allayed the residents fear and worries as the Upper East Regional Manager, John Sackey, has assured of advanced measures to clear wastes in some major gutters and water ways before the rains start.

Speaking to A1 Radio, Mr. Sackey explained how his outfit is working hard towards the rainy season.

“For the past month, my men have been working on the drainage systems in the Municipality. They will make sure they remove all plastic wastes as well as solid wastes out of them to aid free flow of water if the rains set in.” Mr. Sackey said.

John Sackey also hinted that very soon the Upper East Region will have a recycling plant which will start recycling plastic waste into more usable products as the region is engulfed with plastic waste.

Meanwhile, it can be recalled that in 2018 some farmers in the Kalbeo and Sherigu communities in the Bolgatanga Municipality complained bitterly about the indiscriminate dumping of waste products on their lands by Zoomlion, but in a quick response, Mr. Sackey, faulted the Bolgatanga Municipal Assemble of not doing its best to work on the dumping site, but assured that any Zoomlion driver found dumping waste on someone’s land or farm without the person’s knowledge will be dealt with.
