Tutors are the cause of students indiscipline in school

Talking about the recent indiscipline among students in various schools in the region, a retired Educationist, Reverend Simon Asige, has added his voice to the numerous calls to ending such behaviors.

Rev. Asige who expressed shock at such behaviors explained that, since a behavior is acquired and most students normally see their tutors as role models, they adopt whatever behavior their tutors are living, either in the home or at school and as many tutors are indisciplined in societies, that is what the students have become.

Rev. Asige who spoke on the Sunset Drive programme on A1 Radio with Lexis, explained that majority of tutors nowadays are proud to sit with their students drinking bars to have drinks or at smoking joints with their students.

“…the sad part is that some of these tutors are ill-trained and indiscipline so when they come into contact with students, the best thing they can do and will do is to transfer such behaviors to the innocent students. This is what has resulted in the high level of indiscipline among students in recent times in the various schools.”

Technologically, Rev. Asige said the kind of educational system the country is having is old fashioned and ought to be changed hence relevant stakeholders in the educational sector should try and adapt new ways of training the tutors and teaching the students.

He however said the way forward to ending this canker among students is when parents and tutors collectively share their responsibilities through playing a counseling role both at school and in the home.
