Profile Of Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, The Upper West Regional Minister

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih, Upper West Regional Minister, was born in 1970 in Wa, Upper West Region. He is an expert in Social Administration and Educational Leadership. He also has skills in Conflict Resolution and Development Management.

POLITICAL CAREER

Dr. Bin Salih’s father, Mr. Alhaji Alhassan Bin Salih, was a stalwart of the New Patriotic party (NPP) and served as a Member of Council of State during former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s regime from 2001 to 2009.

Dr. Bin Salih started his political career as the TESCON President of Tamale Polytechnic from 2000 to 2002 and Wa Circuit Court Polling Station Chairman from 2004 to 2005.

He also served the NPP in the capacity as an Inter party Youth Organizer (2005-2009) and Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP from (2005-2010).

Dr. Bin Salih was elected as the Upper West Regional 2nd Vice Chairman for the NPP which he held until 2014.

Prior to his appointment to the high office of the Regional Minister, Dr. Bin Salih served as the Upper West Regional 1st Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from 2014 to 2018, and Regional Secretary (2015-2018).

He subsequently contested the Upper West Regional Chairmanship position of the party but lost to, Mr. Saanbaye B. Kangbaree. Dr. Bin Salih is currently a member of the National Council of the NPP.

EDUCATIONAL CAREER

Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih has climbed through all the academics leather beginning from Certificate A from the N.J Ahmadiyya Teacher Training College in 1992-1995 and also possess an HND certificate from the Tamale Polytechnic in 2002. He obtained a Degree in Bachelor of Education (UEW) in 2007 and later proceeded to Paris Graduate School where he obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Management in 2009.

He also holds a Master of Arts, Conflict Peace and Development studies from the University of Cape Coast in 2011 and a Master of Philosophy degree in Development Studies from the University for Development studies in 2012. He holds another Master of Education Science (Education, Leadership and Administration) from the University of Nicosia, Cyprus (2016-2018).

Dr. Bin Salih obtained a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Social Administration from the University for Development Studies (UDS) in April 2018

Dr. Bin Salih has also published work to his credit including; “Implications of Wa Chieftaincy Conflict on the Socio-Economic Development of the Wa Municipal in Ghana” and “the role of religious bodies in the peace building process in the intra-Islamic conflict in Wa”.

WORKING LIFE AND BOARD SERVED

He served as a member of the Institute of Economic Affairs monitoring team for election 2012 in the Upper West Region.

He previously served on the National Commission on Civic Education Inter-Party Dialogue Committee, Upper West Region for election 2012 and 2016.

From 2012 to 2016, Dr. Bin Salih served as member of the Board of Governors for the Wa Senior High Technical School; Board Member of the Tupaso Senior High School from 2014 to 2016, Board Member of T. I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School from 2012 to 2014, and Assembly Member (Government Appointee) for Wa Municipal Assembly from 2006 to 2007.

Aside his political career; Dr. Bin Salih is an accomplished educationist and served at different levels with the Ghana Education Service from 1995 to date.

He was a Supervisor of Unit Schools in the Upper West Region at the Ahamdiya Education Unit of the GES from September 2007 to April 2011.

From May 2011 to September 2011, he served as the Deputy Coordinator, Guidance and Counseling at the Wa Municipal Education Directorate. He was, until his appoint, the Coordinator for Second Cycle Institutions and Private Schools at the Wa Municipal Education Directorate from 2011 to 2019

Additionally, Dr. Bin Salih was a subject teacher at the Wa Technical Institute from September 2006 to August 2007 and 2002 to 2003, class teacher at Nuriya Islamic Primary School from September 1998 to august 1999, Danku Islamic Primary School from 1997 to 1998, Dah D/A Primary School from 1996 to 1997 and Kayinguasi Primary School from 1995 to 1996.

Dr. Bin Salih is married to Madam Reyana Hakeem, a midwife and is blessed with two children, Hassan Bin Salih and Khadijah Bin Salih . His hobbies are reading and watching football.

Dr. Bin Salih is a Muslim who respects and tolerates the religious beliefs of others. He is passionate about ensuring peaceful co-existence of people with divergent views. He is also committed to the forward match and development of the Upper West Region and Ghana at large.
