Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly supports Azaalongu Primary

Azaalongu Primary School in the Sherigu community in the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region has finally had the support its been pursuing the government for.

For a long time, pupils and teachers of the school have been without furniture in most of the classrooms, as well as other amenities to aid them have quality teaching and learning sessions.

Azaalongu Primary has for some time been counted among schools with poor enrolments and high rate of absenteeism in the Bolgatanga Municipality. The school is in a deprived area, but has never benefited from the School Feeding Programme.

A few weeks after A1 Radio had reported on the state of the school, the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly responded by handing over a total of 180 dual desks and a new classroom block to the school and also added the school to the list of schools to benefit from the School Feeding Program in 2019.

It is expected that the school will start seeing an improvement in its enrolment following the handing over of the new six classroom block, dual desks and benefiting from the School Feeding Programme.

In an exclusive interview with the Headmistress of Azaalongu Primary School, Madam Ayishetu Shirazu said, management was more than happy for the assemblys support.

“I never thought the Assembly will consider Azaalongu Primary as part of their supporting list now. After receiving this wonderful support from government, I hold it at heart to do my best to impact the needed knowledge to the pupil of Azaalongu. Again, I must admit that after enrolling this school onto the School Feeding Program, pupils attendance to school has improved.”

Hon. Ayamga Johnson Asooh who is the Assemblyman of the Area, expressed similar gratitude to government, and appealed that government should help the community to be connected to the national grid, saying this is a major problem the community is facing.

Meanwhile, A1 Radios checks have revealed that Azaalongu Primary School is not the only school that the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has supported this year; other basic schools are Kalbeo, Sokabisi and Tindonsobligo Primary Schools in the Municipality.
