The Bolgatanga Community Development Vocational Technical Institute in collaboration with the German International Cooperation (GIZ- E4D) has graduated 42 female students as Motorcycle Mechanics and Solar Energy Technicians (FeMMSTECH).
Out of the number, 36 graduated as solar energy installation technicians, and six graduated as motor mechanics.
They were awarded with the National Vocational Training Institute (NVTI) proficiency certificate after they had successfully passed the NVTI examination.
FeMMSTECH is a project which seeks to equip and train women in perceived male jobs, and provide underprivileged girls the opportunity to be useful in the labour market.
Speaking to A1 News, the Principal of the Bolgatanga CDVTI, Angelina Talata Kunkuri, said the institute was ready to support the graduates in the relevant job market in spite of its numerous challenges.
“… the institute is always ready to provide support, be it guidance in times of difficulties or advice to its graduands. We are keenly working with various District Assemblies to monitor and provide technical support for our graduands.”
She appealed to the Northern Development Authority (NDA) to assist the Institute with some technological advances as well as machines.
“My passionate appeal goes to NDA, if they can support the program with some of the tricycles packed at the PWD yard in Bolgatanga.” She said.
The institute is the first to benefit from such initiatives from the German International Cooperation in the region.
Mr John Duti, Team Leader of the GIZ-E4D, said the project would cooperate with key partners to increase the quantity and quality of the number of people in the jobs market.
“This project gears towards increasing the number of people on the job market by 2,500 and by so doing enhance incomes of 26,000 people and improve labour conditions of about 13,000 people,” he said.
He said apart from the female targeted interventions, the project strived to achieve at least 35 percent of female participation in all projects.
“I dare to say that we have been successful and are looking forward to further collaborate with existing and new partners with regards to gender mainstream,” Mr Duti said.
The graduation ceremony brought together top officials from within and out the region.
