UMABO donates blood to Upper East Regional Hospital

The Union of May-borns (UMABO), a group of about 150 members, on Saturday donated blood to support the Upper East Regional Hospital’s blood bank.

The group, which was formed in 2011 with few members, began its philanthropic initiatives with gift donations to health facilities within the region in the month of May every year.

UMABO, in 2016 added blood donation exercises to its activities as part of its contribution to quality health care delivery in the region and country at large.

In an interview with A1 News, the President of the group, Vincent Asigri recounted how the group came into existence and some of the initiatives it had undertaken over the years.

” …it was an idea in 2011 that few of us raised but as reasonable people as we are, we accepted it and began working on it and here we are today to donate blood to support the blood bank. In 2013 we started with the giving of gifts to May born babies at the various hospitals but as our membership keeps on growing, we expanded the idea of giving gifts to that of blood donation,” he recalled.

He encouraged members of the public, especially people who are born in the month of May to join them to support the needy in the Region.

Mr Asigri said “As far as there is life , we will continue to do the little we can to support the needy. I encourage people who are born in the month of May to come and join us to achieve these wonderful initiatives.”
