Damba Festival Video by Peace Corps Ghana

This festival is centered around the celebration of the birthday and outdooring day (naming ceremony) of the Prophet Mohammed from Islam. Originally, it was only celebrated in a small area of the Northern Region, but has gained popularity over the centuries and is now widely celebrated and considered the most important festival for the Dagomba and Gonja people. The Damba festival involves three days of dancing and an opportunity for people with new dancing “smocks” to show off their new dress and dance moves.
