Ahead of the 28th
September primaries for orphan constituencies of the New Patriotic Party (NPP),
a member of the party in the Nabdam Constituency, Mike Zuri has declared his
intention to contest the election.
In January this year,
some posters of Mike Zuri emerged in the area from faceless constituents who
pleaded with him to contest the seat. But Mr. Zuri at the time said the former
Member of Parliament, Boniface Gambila is his Godfather whom he will not
contest should the former legislator declares his intention to run again.
In what was so much expected, Mr. Gambila has declared his intention to contest the party’s primaries indicating that his desire to kick out Dr. Kurt Nawaane, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament in the area “is still as fresh as it was in 2000”.
Meanwhile, Mr. Zuri in
his first public declaration in an exclusive interview with A1 News, said his
Godfather after contesting in 5 times cannot lead the NPP in recapturing power
from the NDC.
“I see my father as a
very good administrator. He can be the Chief of Staff for the President, he can
be one of the best ministers. But in Nabdam, he contested 5 times and out of
the 5 times he won once, and as an MP, we lost massively to almost 3, 000 votes
to Dr. Nawaane. And that is why, the people think that, Honorable Boniface
Gambila should relax and support the youth to take Nabdam to another level”,
Mr. Zuri indicated.
Mr. Zuri who described
himself as the Obama of Nabdam expressed optimism of reclaiming the seat from
the incumbent MP, Dr. Kurt Nawaane of the opposition NDC after the September
primaries.
“When nominations are opened, I will be expecting my Godfather [Mr. Gambila] to bless me so that we can win the seat. This is my time; this is his time to support me. I want to assure the good people of Upper East Region and Ghana that, in Nabdam Constituency, NPP is taking the seat and Mike Zuri is the person to watch out”, declared.
