Christian Atsu optimistic of Ghana's chances at AFCON

Newcastle United star Christian Atsu is overly optimistic Ghana will end the 37 years wait for the AFCON trophy by lifting the gong in Egypt.

Ghana will be attempting to win the trophy for the first time since 1982 and after coming so close in 2010 and 2015, the Newcastle United star believes this is the time for the Black Stars to win it.

“I’m so sure Ghana will win it this time. I don’t know where I am getting that strong feeling from but I am sure we will win it,” he told footballmadeinghana.com

“It’s my fourth time and I believe this is the time for us to win. The believe is so strong for me and I believe this time we will win it.”

Atsu also revealed that the current generation of Black Stars players owes it a responsibility to win the trophy because it has eluded the country for far too long.

“We have had the generation of Essien, Sulley Muntari, Stephen Appiah and many more who couldn’t win it.

“We have to win it this time because after this AFCON, many people are going to retire,” he added.

Ghana will be in Group F with Cameroon, Benin and Guinea-Bissau.
