Kwadwo Asamoah and Thomas Partey remain Ghana’s last men standing in this season’s UEFA Champions League as the draw for the semi-final stage was held earlier this morning in Zurich,Switzerland. Kwadwo Asamoah was a late substitute as Italian Champions Juventus held Barcelona to a stalemate at the Nou Camp to complete a 3-0 aggregate win over the Spanish champions.
Thomas Partey was an unused substitute as Athletico Madrid held Leicester City to1-1 draw at the King Power stadium to claim a 2-1 aggregate win over last season’s surprise English champions. The draw for the semi-finals pits Juventus against French side AS Monaco whiles the other semi final will see a repeat of last season’s final when Madrid rivals,Real and Athletico face –off.
Asamoah and Partey will be hoping to become just the sixth Ghanaian players to hold aloft Europe’s premier club competition. Previous Ghanaian winners of the Uefa Champions League include Abedi Pele(Marseille,1993),Ibrahim Tanko(Borussia Dortmund,1997),Samuel Osei Kuffour(Bayern Munich,2001),Sulley Muntari(Inter Milan,2010) and Michael Essien(Chelsea,2012). The 1st legs will be contested on the 2nd and 3rd of May with the return legs scheduled for 9th and 10th May.
