Over 7, 000 Youth In Upper West Employed By Weaving/Smock Industry

The weaving industry has been one of the lucrative industries in Upper West lately as more young men and women have embraced the trade.

The industry which is made up of weavers responsible for putting the cotton materials together to become full fabrics has expanded with a net capital value of over Ghc150, 000, the sewers and joiners are responsible for merging weaved pieces of materials together to churn out a complete smock.

Those selling the primary products such as the ropes and yards of materials have also been employed as primary and secondary suppliers.

Meanwhile there are other set of people who sell the finished smocks.

The smock industry has employed 3, 000 young men and women in the wa municipality whilst other young girls who have opted to learn a trade instead of schooling have chosen to learn how to weave by attaching with some of these business entities responsible for joining and merging.

Other Districts that have embraced weaving include the Nadowli-Kaleo District with quite a number of weavers in Loho, Kaleo, Nadowli the district capital and Tangasie closely monitored.

Other Districts include Wa West, Jirapa Municipality and Sections of the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa District.

A smock is sold for at least Ghc180 Depending on the Design and Materials Used.
