Christians backlashed for dodging Church services to watch Kumkum Bhagya

As the popular television series, “Kumkum Bhagya” gets satiric and emotional, Christians have received the backlash for often shunning the house of God to watch the unending series in their homes.

The famous India telenovela has been on the screen of Adom Television for about 3 years now. The series which catches the attention of both the aged and the youthful in society in some instances have received applauds, while a section of the public condemns it as a tool which could affect the educational system in the country.

This condemnation came as a result of some schools in Ghana setting examination questions on the TV series. The recent criticism about the airing of the Indian telenovela came from Church leaders to some Christian lovers of the TV series.

General Overseer of High Powered Ministries International, Reverend David Alale observed that some Christians have neglected Church activities to stay at the comfort of their homes to enjoy ‘Kumkum Bhagya’.

“When you are supposed to come to Church on Wednesday and on Friday, you are in the house watching Kumkum Bhagya. And you think you are smart. You cannot compare Kumkum Bhagya to the scriptures”

Rev. Alale blamed Christians for refusing to worship and praise God to watch Kumkum Bhagya when he delivered a sermon, reading a story from the Holy Book, about Daniel in the Lions’ den.

He made this remark during closing activities of this year’s AHAVA in Bolgatanga, Upper East Region under the theme, “the harvest is here”. AHAVA is an annual activity which brings together members of High Powered Ministries International and the public for a 3 day fasting and prayers to commence a new year.

Rev. Alale admonished Christians and the public to learn to walk with God as it is a surest way of fighting corruption and social vices in the country.

Resident Pastor of High Powered Ministries International, Reverend Joseph Kobre speaking to the media expressed optimism that, the year 2019 would open doors for the wellbeing of the Church members and the public.
